Significance of Recognition of Transgender

Introduction

People who are neither male nor female are known under the category of " Third Gender". These third gender persons are known as Transgenders.

We live in a country where not only males and females exist, but transgenders also. When census is conducted, only figures of male and female population are drawn out but this class is always left out because they are considered as ' disordered persons '.

WHO declaration for Transgenders
But recently WHO announced that this class of persons will no longer be recognized as 'disorder ' as they are also citizens of this country and therefore have a right to discuss their health issues in a frank manner.

Right to live a social life
Apart from health issues, they can live their social life in a peaceful manner as the Indian judiciary have given them recognition in society by saving their right to privacy under Article 21 of Indian Constitution.

Education and employment to Transgenders
As right to life and personal liberty is granted by the Indian Constitution to them, similarly focus should also be laid down for providing them education and employment for a better status and livelihood.
As they would be educated, they would become socially aware of their rights and responsibilities they have to pay as a citizen of this country.
As education is important, so is employment. Literally 80% of the population begs on various occasions for their survival by giving blessings in return. If we provide employment to such people, they would have satisfaction of earning by working to get a healthy standard of living and won't beg for survival.

Initiatives by Government

Government should introduce some types of schemes and programmes for the education and employment to transgenders. So also some funds should also be provided to them so they may not beg from home to home for survival as they have a tendency of cursing people. So this practice of begging should be stopped by Government.

Conclusion
As they get education and employment, their standard of living would improve.
As the standard of living improves, their dignity in society would increase contributing to the social and economical development of the country as a whole.

Therefore social recognition of transgenders is important as it would provide them a proper stand in society and raise their dignity in the minds and hearts of Indian citizens.
